Fundamentals Of Mediation

Target Group: This Workshop is extremely useful to professionals who face disputes or conflict in their work. Lawyers, social workers, counsellors, school Deans, Probation Officers, managers, school Principals, project managers, barristers, mediators and others benefit from the skills learned. Previous participants with prior learning through mediation training with LEADR, or undertaking the Massey Diploma course have commented that the Workshop has added significantly to their facilitation and mediation skills

Content: This workshop introduces participants to the central notions of interest-based negotiation and the development of skills used to facilitate, negotiate and mediate effectively in a range of situations. Process-focussed communication skills are taught and there is skills practice in large and small groups.

Outcomes: Participants who complete the Workshop will receive a Certificate of Completion. They will have gained a greater understanding of the principles and practice of mediation. They will also have developed a specific set of facilitation skills to enhance their performance as mediators, managers, facilitators, or conflict resolution professionals.

Advanced Mediation Skills Workshop

Target Group: This innovative 15 hour Workshop is designed for people who already have a grounding in mediation or facilitation skills. Participants would usually be using the skills of mediation in their work and wishing to enhance their capability in using these skills. It is assumed that participants have a working knowledge of mediation. Prior introductory training might include the MTC "Fundamentals of Mediation Workshop", LEADR introductory or advanced courses, the Massey University Diploma course and others.

Content: This Workshop is primarily a 'hands-on' skill-building experience. There is a tight focus on the facilitation skills necessary for mediators. These include: Fine-tuning the process; using advanced questioning techniques; breaking impasse; establishing and maintaining control; coping with power imbalances; maintaining mediator role. Attention is also given to the mediator's communication skills. The Workshop runs for five successive Tuesday evenings from the start date. Each session runs from 6-9 pm with a break for refreshments.

Outcomes: Participants who successfully complete this workshop will receive a Certificate of Completion.
